On the morning of October 17, I attended the opening ceremony in Shanghai for Disney's fun house. If you are interested in this event you can read more here:

Today was the first day for mutual cooperation between the One Foundation and the NBA. Along with doctors and teachers, I accompanied four children with leukemia to fulfill their dreams of attending an NBA game.

Watching the NBA provided me with three observations:

First is the concept of "team work"; the key to success is not just through individual effort, but rather as a result of people working together

Second is the idea of being pro-active with charity work. The NBA athletes are very aggressive in helping out with charity events. it is a spirit that we all should adopt.

Third is never giving up. You can never tell which team will win until the last second. Every player tries their best and doesn't give up until the last moment. Shouldn't we all treat life with the same attitude?

Thanks to the mutual cooperation of Disney, the NBA and the One Foundation, we were able to fulfill the dreams of these four children with leukemia. Through this video I would like to share with you the joy of that special evening.

I'm most appreciative of two friends at CAA -- Michelle Kydd Lee and Michael Kives -- and to the Clinton Foundation Asia staff. Thanks to their assistance, the One Foundation has been introduced to friends around the world during their annual meeting.

I received news in the middle of the day that President Clinton, despite his busy schedule, had set up time for a short meeting with me. During the meeting, President Clinton clearly recalled our previous meeting two years ago during a charitable fund raising meeting in the Middle East. He said that just two days prior he had watched "Fearless" and felt inspired. I brought up the reasons "Fearless" was made and introduced him to the One Foundation's ideas, direction and future, in the hope that I could learn from his extensive global experience with charitable work and gain his support.

The afternoon session was on "Expanding Profitability While Confronting Global Challenges". It discussed present charitable enterprise ideas; from the beginnings of corporate CSR as a passive activity, to installing social responsibility within the basic business model during the first steps of establishing an enterprise. For example, Starbucks, by helping farmers with funding to establish a good working environment and conditions, simultaneously guaranteed higher quality in the coffee manufacturing process creating a positive cycle. A Swiss insurance company massive subsidation of impoverished areas increased the ability for residents to resist natural calamities, thus reducing the need for insurance payouts, as well as promoting the company's overall image.

Many global enterprises discussed how to take on social responsibility. I've often expressed to my Fortune 500 friends that when you make money in any country, you need to give back to the local community to create a positive cycle. If everyone, from the bottom to the top, has a charitable, merciful heart, then society as a whole will be more harmonious.

During the evening awards ceremony, recognition was given to individuals in areas of education, poverty, the environmental and health. I was so moved during the ceremony that twice I almost cried. Each person who introduced the prize winners were also people who had made brilliant contributions to humanity. Long, standing ovations were given for each award recipient as well as those who introduced them; respect for those who had contributed towards humanity and global peace. I felt inspired and enpowered, knowing that we are not alone; there are many people putting forth a great deal of effort on this planet for the benefit of humanity -- for this big family.

The One Foundation is still very young, and being one of the few China-based foundations to participate in this conference is a huge inspiration. I would like to once again thank President Clinton and the friends of the CAA for this cherished learning opportunity to further solidify the One Foundation's idea -- that everyone on this planet is part of one big family. I hope that in the near future, should a natural disaster occur, that the Chinese people will rise up to help rebuild those affected with a charitable heart.

On September 25th, the One Foundation and the "To be Number One" Foundation developed by Thailand's Princess Ubol Ratana Ratchakaya Siriwattana Pannawadi, officially became international partners to work together in China and Thailand on charitable causes. Those interested friends can find more information here:

On September 26th, I arrived in New York to attend the annual Clinton Global Initiative conference. This is an event sponsored by President Bill Clinton to discuss global education, poverty relief, environmental protection and health issues. I'm extremely happy that such a young organization like the One Foundation was invited to participate in discussions aimed to benefit the entire world. There were 1,500 participants in this conference, including many Fortune 500 companies, world-renowned charities and heads of states.

During my childhood, I traveled to over 40 countries in the name of martial arts; as an adult I traveled the world again through my work in movies; I often joked that the remainder of my life will be spent travelling the world to promote Chinese charitable ideals. My sincere gratitude to President Clinton for this great learning opportunity.

On September 26 at 4:30 p.m., I arrived at the hotel in New York and listened to the first plenary session at 5 p.m. First, President Clinton introduced the topic of global education development. After that the Chinese foreign minister discussed China's national educational policy. Then Afghanistan minister of education, His Excellency Mohammed Haneef Atmar, the founder of The Valentino Achak Deng Foundation , and movie star and philanthropist Angelina Jolie each expressed their opinions on the subject of education.

His Excellency Mohammed Haneef Atmar mentioned their postwar reconstruction efforts in their education system. The schools often receive frequent terrorist attacks; under such difficulties it's most difficult to give the children proper educational opportunity. Many female teachers have sacrificed their lives to promote education. I am deeply moved by this. There are many children from poor areas in China that lack educational resources, but in comparison to the chaos caused by the war in Middle East and Africa, we're very lucky.

Actually, education is extremely important; I did not have the opportunity during my childhood to receive a standard education, and I did not receive even receive an elementary school diploma. But I dare not to ever forget to study and learn. At the CGI meeting, I learned that everyone was in attendance with the attitude of a student -- to learn from one another, to discuss the development of global solutions and share their concern for global human issues. Although, this is only the third year for the annual meeting, it's great to see that so many people are willing to take individual responsibility and duty to discuss how to help humanity as a whole, as one big family. This family concept is what the One Foundation is based on: living on this planet, we are one big family.

In the past, I didn't have the opportunity to participate in activities outside the world of martial arts and movies, and my English proficiency is also limited. So I truly treasure this chance to study with such world renowned enterprises and charities.

it's been just a couple days since arriving in Montreal, Canada and joining the production of "The Mummy 3". As I sit here, reading the Chinese / English scrīpt, I have a sense of deja vu ...

In my May 4th blog entry, I mentioned a similar experience while reading the scrīpt for "The Forbidden Kingdom". And now I'm reading a new scrīpt. As I've said, the process of making movies is like dreaming, and the life of a filmmaker is also like a dream. It is like having a dream within a dream.

In the end, making movies is my job, so I won't let the audience down. I always try my best to do a good job. I will be here for just 2 weeks and then the production moves to China to complete the film there. Rob Cohen, the director, showed me 8 minutes of edited footage taken from the past 2 months of film production. I was in shock when I saw it. Rob is a good friend of mine -- we've been thinking about working together for the past 2 years -- so we're both very excited to finally be on set together, making this happen!

Mummy 3 is the largest production I've ever been involved with in my entire career. The budget is roughly $152 million USD. I heard that there are 1200 crew members in China. It's such a huge team!

Whenever I start work on a new film, I tell myself that I am just a student -- I will learn everything from the beginning and work to make it the best. When I have more updates from the production of Mummy 3 we will chat more!

just watched Andy Lau's music video for the song "One Yuan", which he made for the One-Foundation Project. I first heard this song at the Foundation's commencment on April 19. It was my intention to shoot the music video with Andy, but unfortunately I was on the set of "The Forbidden Kingdom" while he was working on it. So instead, Andy had a great idea to make me into a cartoon-like image so that we could appear in the music video together.

Actually, Andy wrote the song for me to sing, but I really don't have a good voice. I would be willing to sing this song if I was able. Physical movements for filming I can quickly remember, but recalling lyrics and catching the right rhythm is very difficult for me. Many thanks to Andy for writing and singing the song, as well as shooting the video all by himself. It's really a pity that I couldn't join in the music video this time, but I'm sure he will forgive me. Hopefully I will have another chance to work with Andy on a music video in the future.

And with Andy Lau's influence in the music industry, hopefully this song can help people learn about and support the One Foundation Project. The One Foundation is about global participation. Andy gave me a hard time for not singing his song, but I'm sure he knows this was for the best. I'm sure you can understand Andy!

Filming of "the Forbidden Kingdom" has just about finished. It is the way "time" works, where 4 months ago, prior to filming, you wonder how to manage the job. Hundreds of people from different provinces, cultures and languages coming together is a difficult process, but at last we meshed well and the filming has come to an end.

It was abnormally hot in Hengdian this year. We received temperature alerts from 43 to 48 degrees celsius. And since we're all wearing ancient costumes it makes it even more difficult on each of the actors. And now, after 4 months, it is almost over. I often feel that the filming process is like running a marathon, and the last few days is like the final stretch of the race; the most difficult stage and the most challenging. It is always the most difficult shooting at the very end of a film, but everyone has worked hard, putting forth their best effort to finish.

Jackie and I had discussions about doing a movie together before. 15 Years later this collaboration of ours is finished, and there have been many little anecdotes. Jackie is like a big brother, taking good care of everyone. He gave me many things; wire equipment, many varieties of protective gear, heat prevention supplies, mosquito repellent, glasses, vests, umbrellas, different foods -- dozens of things! I joke with him about how, now that the filming is over, when will I have a chance to receive his gifts again?

If the audience likes, we would be willing to film the story idea we discussed 15 years ago, because we've always felt that particular story has merit. I hope that everyone can watch "the Forbidden Kingdom" with an open mind, and that they don't emphasize the fighting scenes with Jackie and myself. After all, this is an American production, created by an American screenwriter, about an American child's dream of the Journey to the West story. It would be more interesting and enjoyable to approach this film from a different angle or point of view.

It's just another dream. And like a dream, when you wake up, the dream of making the movie has come to an end.

Within a one month period I have travelled four times back and forth between Hengdian and Shanghai, utilizing every weekend to promote the One Foundation. Each round-trip journey takes 10 hours, from the moment I step into the car. If one were to say that the preparation for the Foundation prior to April 19 was like it's pregnancy, then the period after the April 19 official launch is like birth and child-raising.

I've done my best, using various methods and channels, to spread the idea of the One Foundation, in the hopes that more people would understand and support it. After six days of filming, a one day rest is actually quite important -- I really should rest. But that is not the way things work out, as many things need to be done. Volunteer work means using one's own time to promote a charitable idea. I haven't seen my wife and kids in three months, and even after filming is finished I will still be doing more work for the One Foundation.

The truth is, I do feel tired sometimes. I remember after the August 12 Charity Cup Car Race in Shanghai, on the way back to Hengdian I was listening to one of Jackie Chan's CDs. I listened to the song entitled "My Best Intentions" several times. Although the song lyrics are about a man's sincere honesty towards a woman, after subsituting the word "family" instead of "woman", it touched me deeply and I couldn't stop the tears from flowing. There are times when I really want to tell people "I really am doing my best." When I returned to Hengdian and saw Jackie, I told him "It's all because of you! Your song, "My Best Intentions" made me cry for half a day!" The lyrics of one song touched me deeply. I think everyone has had this sort of experience in their lives.

The important thing isn't the result, but rather, the process. The recent break between filming two movies was spent publicizing and promoting charitable work, and it is tiring. I keep saying that great courage is what is needed most in this process. Courage far surpasses material and monetary gain; perhaps this is part of Buddhism's great compassion. I often say, "Do something wholeheartedly for the people." Even though it is exhausting, I will perservere! In the future I will spend even more time working, accompanying the One Foundation on it's continued growth.

A few months ago, two of our long-term volunteers, Mr. Ma Han Hua and Liu Hong Yin, from the Dream Boat Star Club, suggested having a One Foundation Charity Cup Car Race. I thought it was a great idea. After several months of hard work the first ever One Foundation Charity Cup race was completed on Augusut 12 at the Shanghai Race Track.

Celebrities from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan participated in this event and I was very touched by the support of the fans. It was a very hot day and the sweat kept pouring down my face and into my eyes, but since it was my first time at this sort of event I had not prepared and didn't bring any tissues. I can't even imagine how difficult it was for the participants of the race, as I heard the temperatures inside the car reached 80F. By the time they finished the race, their racing jumpsuits were soaking wet. In the midsts of their busy schedules, these stars took the time to help the Foundation. I can only offer my gratitude. Words cannot describe my feelings for these brothers and sisters.

Many fans came out to enthusiastically support their idols, but many were so excited they forgot to text in their donations for the One Foundation. Having enthusiasm for their respective idols is good, but it's even better if we can participate in a charitable endeavor along with them. Isn't this more meaningful?

The One Foundation does not belong to just one person, but to all people. All donations will be utilized with the Red Cross Society of China to go where it is most needed. Understanding and caring for others who, in turn, care for you as well -- this is the essence of community interaction. Thank you to everyone for your support. I would also like to remind everyone in mainland China, that they can use their cell phone at anytime to send "1" to 999309 and help those in need.

I was able to bring two volunteers with me to ride in the pace car, so that the youth can have a chance to participate. In the future it would be great to have car and racing enthusiasts join in the race with the celebrities. This joint participation would make the event even more meaningful.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let us know so that next year's event will be even better.

It's been 27 years since films have became a significant part of my life. I remember in 2000 while promoting "The One" in Beijing saying, "You don't have to see Jet Li's films, but you need to watch Chinese films". I'm glad Chinese films have made a drastic improvement in the past few years; theater audiences have increased, and new box office records have been set.

Filming in Europe and North America, I feel that movies are an industry. If we want chinese films to flourish internationally, it can't be a question of having a particular film succeed, but rather the entire film industry in China needs to march together towards the international community. Being a Chinese filmmaker, naturally I hope that China's film industry can develop global influence. Right now the news is usually focused on specific producers, actors, or the idol TV shows, which I don't necessarily oppose, because we can find talented people through these venues. But from the perspective of exporting Chinese movies, and having foreign movies filmed in China, we are facing many production problems. To develop a national film industry, our foundation must be solid. I would like to see an orderly plan of some sort to develop and cultivate behind-the-scene talents from Chinese film schools or a professional film crew training program.

We need to cultivate professional crews to connect with and enter into the international film industry. Adjustments are needed -- from assistant directors, producers, make up artists, prop masters, transportation and catering. For countries which are already established in the international movie industry, we can see that all of these areas are managed by professionals. For example, transportation. How do we effectively set up and maintain vehicle use and parking space to not conflict with filming? If there is professional training for each department, in the long run it will save time and money. After all, the crew's purpose is to support the director's vision, giving him/her the best technical and creative resources possible.

Language training is also very important. Everyone should be able to understand the filming terminology used in Cantonese and English. For example, with international co-productions, you hear cases of the director and assistant directors communicating in English, while others on set might not understand; or of Hong Kong assistant directors who can't speak Mandarin properly. How is he/she to help direct the actors? When things are frantic, it's easy to have misunderstandings and unhappiness on the set.

I knew some farmers that worked in my earlier movies who, through many years of hard work, have become producers. I am very happy for them because this is the result of individual initiative and struggle. If there is a system by which we can train these talents, then we can truly march on to the path of the international film community.

A country with a strong film industry can't concentrate exclusively on the cast; the crew is also a vital component. Filming is team work, requiring talent both in front of and behind the scenes. We have many movies and TV shows to help cultivate actors, but there is still a need for a professional training system for those who are passionate about working in the film industry.

So, how to develop a system for cultivating professional crews? It requires professionals from all the various departments to come together, discuss the issue, and set up an effective plan. In the future, when major films come to China for production, we will easily be able to find professional crews to coordinate with the director on all aspects of filming. But to achieve this we need to have worthwhile discussions and be realistic about how to deal with all of these details.

Aside from cultivating talent, this plan should also encourage annual conferences to discuss and further understand rules and regulations used in the Western film industry, such as employment systems, financial organization, insurance regulations, etc. We need to learn the positive attributes from the Western world and adapt them to create a workable Chinese film industry. With the fast-rising development of the film industry, the next few years is a critical time in setting up professional training programs and technical schools.

These are just some of my humble opinions on this subject that I wanted to share with all of you.
